SkyWise Insight API Offers Precision Weather Data for Any Application

What makes the SkyWise® Insight API unique? After all, most weather APIs allow you to fetch data from the nearest weather station, which may be miles away. While this may be useful in a number of cases, the approach is lacking for users that need to know field level analytics. The Insight API relies on a proprietary modeling process to generate gridded output data at up to a 1km resolution.

This week we released several new features, including endpoints for climatology and global coverage of all weather variables.

Climatology:

  • Insight Climatology endpoints provide daily climatological data derived from both 10 and 30 year archives for a variety of content types.

Supported Content Types

  • Daily High Temperature
  • Daily Low Temperature
  • Daily Precipitation

Daily High / Low Temperature

  • By Location:
    • Provides a daily climatological high/low temperature time series within a user-defined timespan at a specific location. A latitude/longitude pair represents the location.
  • By Asset:
    • Provides a daily climatological time series for high or low temperature within a user-defined timespan at the centroid of an asset, along with the area-weighted arithmetic mean and range of temperature over that asset. Time series values are for the centroid of the asset.
  • Contours by Asset:
    • Provides a contoured representation (GeoJSON) of climatological high or low temperatures over a date range, clipped to an asset boundary.

Precipitation

  • By Location:
    • Provides a daily climatological precipitation time series within a user-defined timespan at a specific location. A latitude/longitude pair represents the location.

  • Provides growing degrees for locations and assets up to 7 days in the future.

Heating / Cooling Degree Days

  • Provides heating / cooling degrees for locations and assets up to 7 days in the future

Daily Precipitation

  • Provides daily precipitation from the start of 2015 up to 7 days in the future.

Hourly Precipitation

  • Provides hourly precipitation from the start of 2015 up to 7 days in the future.

Relative Humidity

  • Provides hourly relative humidity from June 01, 2016 up to 7 days in the future.

  • Provides hourly relative humidity from June 01, 2016 up to 7 days in the future.

Daily Solar Radiation

  • Provides daily solar radiation from the start of 2015 up to 5 days in the future. Supports contouring.

Hourly Wind Speed

  • Provides hourly wind speed in knots from June 01, 2016 up to 7 days in the future.

Hourly Wind Direction

  • Provides hourly wind direction in degrees clockwise from north from June 01, 2016 up to 7 days in the future.

Daily Evapotranspiration Short Crop

  • Provides daily evapotranspiration-short-crop from the start of 2015 up to 5 days in the future.

Daily Evapotranspiration Tall Crop

  • Provides daily evapotranspiration-tall-crop from the start of 2015 up to 5 days in the future.

Hourly Evapotranspiration Short Crop

  • Provides hourly evapotranspiration-short-crop from the start of 2015 up to 5 days in the future.

Hourly Evapotranspiration Tall Crop

  • Provides hourly evapotranspiration-tall-crop from the start of 2015 up to 5 days in the future.

Lee Robb
